Vacation at Home

The seemingly impossible task: busy professionals with boisterous twins and a dog wanted a sophisticated entertaining area with room for kids and dog to play in a postage stamp-sized backyard. The contemporary, multi-functional garden we designed made use of every square inch of space. An expansive cedar and concrete bench with overhead heaters anchors the garden and works perfectly for enjoying a glass of wine or seating neighborhood families for outdoor movie nights. A sleek concrete bar/kitchen encourages socializing while cooking. Horizontal cedar fencing surrounds the entire garden providing much-needed screening, and chic Batu decking and porcelain pavers beautify the ground plane. Steel planters brimming with lush semi-tropical plants, including palms, bamboo and cannas are the final element used to create the “vacation at home” vibe the clients sought for their urban bungalow.
